Faccio parte di un gruppo di fotografi impegnati in un progetto artistico che, fra le altre cose, affronta il tema riguardante la multietnicità. Questo è un tema molto attuale e il modo in cui noi lo vorremmo raccontare avviene attraverso l’esposizione di immagini che raffigurano giovani provenienti da ogni parte del mondo. La nostra società sta cambiando e noi vorremmo farlo, orgogliosamente, presente. Questo progetto si concluderà con una mostra a giugno. Sto cercando donne e uomini abbastanza giovani che possano fare da soggetto per questo progetto. Scade il 31 ottobre il termine per presentare le domande per partecipare alla sessione 2008/2009 del Programma Esperti Associati e Giovani Funzionari delle Organizzazioni Internazionali, detto "JPO Programme".  Si tratta di un'iniziativa di cooperazione tecnica multilaterale finanziata dal Ministero degli Affari Esteri, Direzione Generale per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo. Il programma permette ai cittadini italiani di compiere un'esperienza formativa e professionale nelle Organizzazioni Internazionali per un periodo di un anno, rinnovabile per un secondo anno.  Prenderanno parte ad un corso introduttivo generale di due settimane e poi saranno impiegati nelle sedi centrali o in quelle decentrate delle Organizzazioni, dove parteciperanno a progetti e iniziative di cooperazione tecnica nei Paesi in via di sviluppo.
Sono ricercati molti profili, che variano a seconda delle richieste inoltrate dalle singole Organizzazioni Internazionali: si passa da qualifiche poco definite (giurista, economista) a specializzazioni più marcate (esperto in materia di alimentazione, ambiente, economia dello sviluppo, diritti umani, ecc.).
Requisiti:
- età non superiore ai 30 anni (33 per i laureati in medicina e chirurgia,
- laurea (specialistica o di vecchio ordinamento; se laurea breve, deve essere seguita da un Master),
- ottima conoscenza dell'inglese.

Juvenes Translatores 2008: sono aperte le iscrizioni!

è ora possibile iscriversi al concorso Juvenes Translatores. 

Il 27 novembre 2008 gli alunni nati nel 1991 di ben 690 scuole dell'Unione europea avranno la possibilità di partecipare ad un concorso di traduzione organizzato dalla Commissione europea. Il concorso intende promuovere l'uso delle lingue straniere in Europa e, in particolare, l'arte della traduzione.

Chi può partecipare?

Può fare domanda qualsiasi scuola secondaria in Europa, iscrivendosi entro il prossimo 20 ottobre. Poco dopo la Commissione provvederà a selezionare, mediante estrazione a sorte, le scuole ammesse al concorso.

Entro il 12 novembre le scuole sorteggiate dovranno indicare i nomi di quattro alunni al massimo, insieme alle coppie di lingue in cui intendono sostenere le prove.

Gli alunni possono scegliere una qualsiasi coppia di lingue tra le 23 lingue ufficiali dell'UE. Va però tenuto presente che, per ottenere il miglior risultato possibile, i traduttori professionisti traducono in genere nella loro lingua materna o lingua più forte (quella che conoscono meglio). Le traduzioni saranno valutate da traduttori professionisti della Commissione europea, e i vincitori invitati a Bruxelles nel 2009 per una cerimonia di premiazione in cui potranno fare conoscenza ed incontrare alcuni traduttori dell'UE.

La Commissione Europea bandisce un concorso riservato ai giovani europei per la creazione di un poster, organizzato dalla Commissione europea – Direzione generale Giustizia, libertà e sicurezza.

Abbiamo ricevuto nei giorni scorsi una mail da una ONG del Kenya, la "Tropics International", che ci chiedeva di far conoscere i suoi campi di volontariato in Africa. Facendo qualche ricerca sul web abbiamo capito che il Dott. Jeremy Mirie che ci scrive è un esperto della lotta all'AIDS e che l'organizzazione non è inventata (http://www.idealist.org/if/i/en/av/Org/186368-222). Insomma, anche se è vero che non si trovano moltissime informazioni in Internet, va considerato che la diffusione del web non è la stessa che c'è da noi. Abbiamo comunque ottenuto una lista di contatti (compresa una ex volontaria italiana) che ci hanno permesso di giudicare affidabile l'associazione e quindi abbiamo deciso di pubblicare il loro catalogo in allegato.

Ciao vi informiamo che cinque dei nostri ragazzi Giada Anedda, Alberto Casano, Jessica Floris, Nicola Marcia e Veronica Ponchietti, accompagnati dalla nostra giovane tutor Beatrice Crivello, hanno partecipato a uno scambio multiculturale all'interno dell'ambito dell'azione 1.1 del Programma Gioventù in Azione in Danimarca. Esattamente si trovavano al nord di Copenaghen in una graziosa cittadina chiamata Ebeltoft. Il nome dato allo scambio è un'ottima presentazione:"Sport and Leisure as fertile soil for European awarness". Lo scopo dello scambio verteva sul far incontrare giovani provenienti dall'Italia, dalla Spagna,dal Portogallo e dalla Danimarca per farli confrontare principalmente sul tema dello sport e delle attività nel tempo libero, troppo spesso trascorso nella noia e in inutili e inconcludenti attività. I ragazzi hanno fatto conoscere ai loro coetanei gli sport tradizionali dei propri paesi, hanno fatto varie proposte per giochi attuabili nel tempo libero e non sono mancati i discorsi e le attività sui temi di stereotipi pregiudizi e interculturalità. Ma soprattutto i ragazzi si sono cimentati in avventurose imprese, a cavallo di una mountain bike muniti di bussola e radioline hanno partecipato a una divertente caccia al tesoro all'interno di un bellissimo parco naturale,hanno provato il tiro con l'arco, il tiro a segno, con le giuste misure di sicurezza hanno scalato un albero e hanno gareggiato in canoa nelle fredde acque del Mar Baltico. Ci sono state poi piacevolissime serate a tema, in cui ogni paese presetava agli altri la propria cultura, facendo assagiare cibi tradizionali,facendo conoscere piccole curiosità riguardanti la propria nazione e proponendo della musica...ovviamente la Sardegna si è fatta valere e ora vogliono tutti venire nella nostra solare isola!La lingua principale delle attività è stata come sempre l'inglese ma non sono mancati i tentativi di comunicazione in italiano spagnolo portoghese e danese!Ora guardate le foto e il video allegato e giudicate voi se i ragazzi si sono divertiti e se hanno nuovi amici che parlano lingue diverse e mangiano cibi diversi ma che sono pur sempre cittadini dello stesso mondo....

Costs    All costs concerning meals and accommodation as well as the program and materials will be fully covered for the whole duration of the training. The participation fee for CIS participants is 25 Euros, for EU participants 80 Euros. Travel costs will be reimbursed 70% for representatives of CIS organizations and 50% for representatives of SCI branches up to a maximum of: 75 Euro for CIS and 200 Euro for EU.

25.09.2008 – Winners of “Cultures on my street” revealed

Ján Figel’, European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth, announced on 25 September the winners in the “Cultures on my street” photo competition, organised by the European Commission as part of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue 2008. More than 2,000 entries were received in response to the invitation to portray the theme of intercultural dialogue.

The competition, launched last March, invited everyone with a camera and a sense of curiosity to submit their own vision of cultures meeting and mixing in their neighbourhood. It encouraged all EU residents to express their own view of what intercultural dialogue means in their daily life, under the generous title “Cultures on my street”. On 25 September, The four best entries and a shortlist of runners-up were revealed at the award ceremony, taking place in the Berlaymont building in the European Commission's headquarters in Brussels. “The high level of interest from across Europe shows that this competition captured the imagination of European residents” said Commissioner Figel’ on the eve of the award ceremony. “The many different approaches the entrants took to portraying intercultural dialogue underlined both the rich cultural diversity of Europe, and the strong common values that unite it.”

Three of the winning entries were selected by a professional jury and were judged for their creativity and originality in portraying the concept of "intercultural dialogue", as well as technical merit, wide appeal and eye-catching quality. A fourth prize winner was chosen as the Public’s Favourite through online voting by the European public. All the winners received professional photographic equipment and travel grants to European capitals, with a total value of €15,000.

First prize went to Joseph Smith from Malta, for his image “Village cobbler”. A jumble of shoes, tools, religious ornaments and Elvis posters provides the crowded setting for a tradesman and the locals who often meet in his workshop. “Freddy's shop is a meeting place for friends, locals and even the occasional tourist! I was intrigued by this man's 'cultural' vision: the juxtaposition of religious icons next to those of pop stars”, says Smith. According to Professor Chris Wainright, the UK photographer and academic, and chairman of the jury, “intimacy, multi layering of meaning and elegant mood and composition” were what convinced the jury of the merit of this picture.

The jury awarded the second prize to Nikolaj Lund from Denmark, for his photo “Open Minds”. The picture records a warm embrace between three girls at Lille Torv in Århus, Denmark, at the end of a conversation. This is, according to the photographer, “intercultural dialogue in action”. The photo was taken on the occasion of the project “Borrow a person: grow wiser”.

Third prize went to Jérôme Clair from France for his image “Isolé du jeu” (Isolated from the game). Clair comments on the photo taken in a bar, “a place for exchange and dialogue between people and between generations, and between people of different backgrounds, too, as on this particular day a French photographer decided to take a picture of people from Spain and Venezuela playing an Argentinean card game. It is a mix of origins and contrasts in a single picture”.

The Public’s Favourite award was be received by the image “Fairy Tales 1” by Simon Vansteenwinckel from Belgium. He describes his inspiration for the picture: “I found four young girls playing in the street. Anna, Clara, Fatou and Marie are métis [with parents from different ethnic backgrounds]. But, above all, they are fairies.” The jury also supported the Public’s Favourite picture: it was considered to be a very dynamic image, well observed and added a sense of action, engagement and optimism to the subject.

The winning photos form part of the exhibition inaugurated at the award ceremony by Commissioner Figel’. The winners and further 21 shortlisted photographs are featured in the exhibition, displayed on the Berlaymont esplanade until 31 October and then sent to travel around Europe. The photos together show a panorama of intercultural encounters across the EU – in education and religion, sport and entertainment, shopping and socialising, and in everyday exchanges between young and old, neighbours, friends and strangers.

Speaking of the final selection that makes up the exhibition content, the jury chair Chris Wainright said the chosen photos “represent a range of approaches and individual experiences from across the European region and provide a rich mix of imagery that is at times highly personal, sometimes provocative and in all cases, produced with a high degree of compassion and sensitivity”. He added that the jury was impressed by “the overall engagement of all the photographers who submitted material, even those not chosen for the final exhibition, as they demonstrated a desire and willingness to engage with the issue of intercultural dialogue by the very act of photographing and engaging with others through the camera”.
